April 21, 2024 Sermon: “What Makes the ‘Good Shepherd’ Good?” Scripture: John 10:11-18 Rev. Dr. Peter Moon Jesus famously calls himself “The Good Shepherd." What makes him a shepherd good? The sermon will underscore the role of relationships. Jesus knows his sheep and his sheep know him. He stays with the sheep in contrast to the hireling who lacks relationship. The sermon will speak to this unique feature of our faith and discipleship.

April 14, 2024 Sermon: "Walking on the Road" Scripture: Luke 24:28-35 Rev. Stephen Coleman The Road to Emmaus is a rich scripture passage with many themes. We have two disciples walking the seven-mile trek to Emmaus. The only thing we know about these disciples is that one is named Cleopas. Jesus joins them on the journey but they do not recognize him. Jesus interprets the scriptures to the two strangers and then they share communion together. It is through the Word and the sacrament that their eyes are open. Christ is alive and Christ is always searching for us. The question for us is how are we letting ourselves be known by God as we walk on the road of life. The focus of the sermon will be on the ways Christ reveals himself to us even here, even now. The function of the sermon is to invite people to open themselves to the presence of Christ.

March 24, 2024 Palm/Passion Sunday Worship Service Sermon Series: "The Way of the Cross" Sermon Title: “Were You There?" Scripture: Mark 11:1-11 This sermon will explore the dual scenes of Palm Sunday and the crucifixion by putting us in the crowd, through the hymn “Were You There?” We will answer the question affirmatively. That is us in the crowd, celebrating the coming Messiah. That is also us in the crowd, shouting “crucify.” Fickle and broken people that we are, Jesus still went to the cross for us. As such, there is still hope for us. We were there, but so was and is he.

March 17, 2024 Fifth Sunday in Lent Sermon Series: "The Way of the Cross" Sermon Title: “Sir, We Would Like to See Jesus” Scripture: John 12:20-33 John hits a pivotal point in this reading. The Greeks are coming, and they want what Jesus has to offer. Jesus replies that the hour has come and then speaks of his death as the seed that dies in the ground and is raised to produce much fruit. There is a reminder in this story. The Greeks are still in our midst, those who “would see Jesus.” Our role is to point them to Jesus and recognize that people come to him by our willingness to deny ourselves, and serve them and by doing, serve our Lord.

March 10, 2024 Fourth Sunday of Lent Sermon Series: "The Way of the Cross" Sermon Title: “Is a Cross Really Necessary?” Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 In some ways, this week will be an extension of our “Hard Questions” series. There are voices amongst us today that tend to diminish the need for the cross. It seems brutal, even unnecessary given the goodness and love of our God. The sermon will argue the opposite. For God to be both love and justice, there must be a cross. We are both that sinful and that loved.

March 3, 2024 Third Sunday of Lent: Youth Sunday Sermon Series: "The Way of the Cross" Sermon Title: “Turning the Tables” Scripture: John 2:13-22 This week, our youth will be preaching on the John passage in two parts. One part will focus on Jesus’ anger and his turning of the tables. Is it ok to be angry? What is the difference between “bad” anger and “righteous indignation”? The second part will examine how the religious leaders took advantage of the people’s desire to seek God in the temple, serving their own greed. How can we do better?

This Sunday, Reveille welcomed eight new members: Lauren Meyer, Judy and Larry Boppe, Dan and Rachel Sanders, Chris and Morgan Thomas, and Ellen Woodall. We also celebrated the baptism of both children in the Ashworth family. It's such a blessing to see our church family growing!

Congratulations to Reveille’s Moving with the Spirit Massey Challenge team that participated in the Monument Avenue 10k! We raised $4,200 in the fight against cancer and it's not too late to make a donation at https://www.teammassey.org/masseychallenge24/Spirit. Many of you donated, ran, walked, decorated signs, and joined in the festivities on Saturday! Thank you to Joe Hill for hosting a Reveille porch party!
